The institution ensures that every individual inside the campus exercise equal rights and acquire in the process of offering or receiving education. Any act, speech of caste discrimination or intentions that perturb the harmony among the students and faculty is seriously regarded and dealt on immediate basis to restore the peace. Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous), has constituted the Caste-Discrimination Cell to have a close watch on non-occurrence of SC, ST and OBC caste discriminations. On such situations the individuals/victim  can register their complaints by email / below given link.

Anti-caste Discrimination Cell has been constituted in compliance to the UGC regulations (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions under Periyar University) and it is reconstituted in May, 2023 with the following members to look after the related matters of student and staff. This committee tenure is 3 years and members are supposed to convene meetings at least once in semester or as often as may be needed.

Constitution and Objectives of the Caste-Discrimination Cell

Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous), has constituted the Anti-Caste Discrimination Cell in compliance to the UGC regulations under Periyar University. (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions), with the following members:

Objectives of the Anti-Caste Discrimination Cell:

  • This cell will look after the related matters (if any) of discriminating a student / staff or group of students on the basis of SC, ST and OBC
  • This cell always try to uphold the dignity of the institution by addressing the concerns (if any) brought into the notice related to equality in offering or receiving education inside the campus.
  • This cell protects the rights of individuals without any prejudice to their appearance or lifestyle in the process of learning inside the campus.

  • Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous), provides everybody with equal opportunity irrespective of caste.  The Institution ensures that every staff/student inside the campus enjoys equal rights in the process of offering or receiving education. The Anti-Caste Discrimination cell looks after the related matters (if any) of depriving a student, or staff, or group of students on the basis of caste especially, SC, ST, and OBC
  • Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous) does not discriminate any student/staff on the basis of SC, ST, and OBC caste and it is protected by applicable law.
  • Our policy of Non-discrimination in campus applies to admission, opportunities, discipline, placements, participation in all events organised, access to benefits and training and all other aspects of campus life.
  • Students with questions or concerns about caste discrimination particularly SC/ST and OBC in the campus are encouraged to bring these issues to the attention of the Nodal Officers /Members of Anti-Caste Discrimination Cell through mail or in person. Students can voice their concerns and submit reports without fear of retaliation.

Responsibilities of Convener and Members:

  • It is imperative that Nodal Officer and Members not only adhere to but enforce this Policy. They have a special obligation not to engage in discrimination, harassment of SC, ST, and OBC. All management and supervisory personnel have an affirmative duty and promptly report any discrimination, harassment, retaliation or sexual assault that they observe, learn about from others, or reasonably suspect has occurred with respect to an employee.

Complaint Procedure:

  • Students and Staff members of the Institution are encouraged to report discrimination, harassment or retaliation, including but not limited to any Discriminatory Practice to the SC, ST, and OBC individual in accordance with this Policy. The Institution may investigate any conduct that violates this Policy, even in the absence of a complaint, and take remedial action where appropriate.

Anti-harassment policy:

  • Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous), provides a safe and pleasant environment where everyone is treated with respect without discrimination on any grounds on SC, ST, and OBC students
  • The conduct prohibited by anti-caste discrimination policy, whether verbal, physical, or visual, includes any discriminatory action and any welcome or unwelcome conduct that is inflicted on someone because of that individual’s protected status.
  • Among the types of conduct prohibited by this policy are epithets, slurs, jokes, negative stereotyping, intimidating acts, and the circulation or posting of written or graphic materials that show hostility toward individuals because of their protected status.
  • Anti harassment policy forbids harassment based on SC, ST, and OBC caste regardless of whether the offensive conduct is harmful in nature and regardless of whether it rises to the level of a legal violation.
  • Any unwelcome conduct based on SC, ST, and OBC discrimination is also forbidden by this policy regardless of whether the individual engaged in harassment and the individual being harassed are of the same or are of different caste.

 Confidentiality
